In the Beoood rouod of tbe Chess Championship Hooiham adopted Fetroff's deft nee ■against Edwardß, and wen a pawn on the •eighteenth move, bat tbe game was f»irly «yen. Mason defended againet Bar imb with the Frenoh game, and the positions are even. Cooks opened againpt Anderson with the Boy Lopez, and at tbe lnnoheon adjournment the former appeared to have a little tbe beßt of the position. Fleasants also adopted tbe same opening against dfellor, and an onBound sacrifice caused the latter to lose his position, and he resigned on the 28th move. Gifford opened with the Scotch game againtt Meldrnm, and even play resulted. Grjerson bad a bje.

In the third round Edwards beat Hookham, Barnes beat Mason, Cooks bent Anderson, Pleasants beat Mellor, Meldrum beat GirTord, and Grierson bad a bye.
