SOCIAL TO MR. T. A. ASKEW.
(' Colonist, 1 Deo. 2.)
Last night the members of Court Robin Hood, and the sisters of Court Star of Nelson, assembled, to the number of eighty in the Court Room to bid farewell to Bro T. A. Askew, late Treasurer of Court Robin Hood.
Bro F. Track, the Mayor, occupied the chair, and said that they had met to say farewell to Bro Askew, who was about to leave Nelson. Bro Askew had been a member of the Order for about 1G years, and for 11 years had bean Treasurer of Court Robin Hood, during which time he had given the greatest satisfaction to the Court ; and as a citizen he had shown great public spirit. He had known Bro Askew since his boyhood, and had watched his career till he had obtained the position of member of the City Council, and he regretted he had to leave Nelson, and he wished him every success for the future.
Bro Finney said he would like to add a few words to the remarks cf the Mayor. He had been closely allied to Bro Askew during the last 11 years, and that during that time he, as Secretary, could say that Bro Askew had always done all in his power to forward the interests of Forestry. He had always found Bro, Askew wbb very accurate io. all hia dealings, and he very mu-h regretted that be was ab.ut to leave Nelson. The CourS bad decided to present Bio Askew with a P>Bt Treasurer's gold watch pendant, and he hoped he would look upon it as a memento of the good feeling tbat existed between him .and the members of the Court.
Bro Askew in replying, said that he did not know how to express his feelings to the members. It was sid to say good bye. but he should never forget the good feeling that had existed between him and the members of tha Court during his term of office. He did not intend to leave the Ooutt altogether, and ha hoped he would luve the pleasure of meeting them again.
Bio Easdale Baid be was very sorry to pirt with Bro Askew. On the Spoita Committee, he had been a good man. but he was sorry to say that the Foresters' Eports had almost died out — it was questionable whether tbey would have eny sporis this year. The public did not eupport them, and they should have to let them fall throe gb. although he hoped somehiog in tbe shspa of a picnic would be arranged fcr the first of February.
Bro Askew then proposed the continued prosperity of Court Robin Hood and Court Star of Nelson, and sincerely trusted they would continue ta prosper.
Sis Tibb'e, Chief Banger of Court Star of Nelson, aod Bro Finney suitibly replied. During the evening B;os Larking, Oldershaw, S Tra.k and M Jackson, and SUterß Larkins and Hall contributed to the harmony, and a very pleasant evening was b ought tc a olesa shor.ly before 11 o'clock by all joining in einging " Auld Ling Syne."
