The question of encroachment on city streets is coming to a head. About 750 notices have been served by the City Council on occupiers, and some of the latter intern! to resist at any cost. They contend that tha alignments have followed the original surveys and that some of them are fifty year 3 old, and the Council has no right to interfere noWg In other cases the Council itself is alleged to have failed to cut the streets the proper width by a toot or two, and where housed had been built up to the edge of the steep bank it is a serious and expensive matter fot owners if compelled to interfere with thg property, and it will greatly depreciate the value. A suggestion is made to try one 08 two extreme cases by way of a test.
