COAL PROSPECTING AT ENNERGLYN.

The prcspeoting operations being carried on nnder the Jenkins' Hill Company, with a view to ascertaining the extent of the ooal deposit on the Ennerglyn property, are revealing a hopeful state of things. Altogether the coal first met with has been followed down about 130 feet, the shaft last sank having bean carded to a depth of 80 feet, where sandstone rook was met with. This rook is estimated to be some 30 feet below the level of the creek. At that level, the ooal seam is five feet in thickness, and we gather from a gentleman who has inspected it, that the eoam, which lLs at an angle of about 45 degrees, and dips in a southerly direction — that is, into the hill — is showing some eign of flattening out more at the lowest level reiohel, aad taming towards the weft. The oca'- is described as of fair qua ity, but still bears evidence of crasbing, though should it be p.oved that the seam flattens oat towards Bishopdale, there is every likelihood of the ooal being more Bjlid, end of better quality. It is now intended to further sink for a Bhort distance close to the bottom of the present drive, with a view of ascertaining whether the sandstone mat with is the trae bottom, atd also as to the course the ooal there takes. There are four men augaged on the work, and as the ooal is being followed, all tbat has baen and is being done is proving the country. In the work of prospecting, some 60 tons of coal have been takgn out. and there is a good deal in sight, but the a ; m at pr.sent is to ascertain, the value of the deposit. Undoubtedly, the prospects are hopeful, and we trust that, aB work proceeds, they will become more and more so.
