(Per United Press Assooiation.) Trentham, Maroh 20. The Championship, Sbarp at tbree o'olook tbe final stage of the Championship began, and as was anticipated a great struggle ensued, tbe Ballinger Bros eventually tieing for the Belt, but in the firing off W. BBllinger, with a magnificent score of 24 out of 25, teat his brother, and secured the coveted trophy. The following is the result of the Championship ; final stage, 10 shots at 700 yards ;— Captain W. Ballinger, Petone Rifle Club, £25 and gold medal given by tbe Defence Mini-.ter 532 Volunteer A. Ballinger, Wellington City Guards, silver star and £17 10s . . 632 Volunteer Biohardson, South Dunedin

Ross, Waipukurau Rifle Club, £4 . . 514 Bergt-Major Perry, Alexandra Cavalry, £4 511 Corporal Brown, A Battery, £4 . . . . 511 The Rifle Challenge Cup, for the highest rang 6 score in this Matoh, was won by Corpl. King, of the Oamaru Garrison Band. Wbllington. Maroh 20, There was a large attendance of the publio in the Drill Shed to-night, when the prizes won at the Rifle Association meeting were presented to the successful oompititors by the Mayor of Wellington. In addresßing the competitors, Major Sommerville said the ahooting at the meeting had been so good that it was almost a record, not only for the j Colony, but also for the whole world. The winners were loudly applauded as they were handed their pfizes, the two Ballingers, Riohardson, Kirk, Doughty, Wakelin, Robinson, Parslow, and the two Victorians, Hawker and Steward, being aooorded especially hearty orations. At the conclusion of tbe presentation, at the oall of Major Sommerville, three hearty cheers were given for the ohampion W. Ballinger, and also for the ex-champion" Captain Smith. Major Sommerville men* tioned that the Premier would have been happy to be present at the presentation oeremony, but he was kept away by prior engagement
