THE NELSON FRUIT GROWERS ASSOCIATION.
At the annual meeting of this Association, held on Saturday night, eleven members were present—Mr A. S. Atkiuson, the President, occupying the Chair.
The annual report and balance sheet, the latter showing a small credit balance, were adopted.
The President, having congratulated the Association upon its having completed the first year of its existence, expressed his belief that a great future is in store for the fruit growing industry in Nelson, and said he was confident that much, tbat at present was comparatively worthless, country would be used for fruit culture. He alluded to the extent of the industry in America, and expressed his opinion that their Association must do good. He proposed Mr Livesay as the next President.
The proposal being adopted unanimously. Mr Livesey took the Chair. He expressed a hope that the Association would become more popular.
Mr Atkinson and Dr Looking were elected Vice-Presidents, and Messrs Browning, Chapman, Wiesenhavern, Hale, Marshall, Petrie, Sunley, Avery, Strong, and Dr Hudson members of Committee; Mr Piper, Secretary, and Mr Somerville, Treasurer.
The President gave notice of his intention to move at next meeting; tbat members may be admitted on payment of the annual subscription (ss) without having to undergo election.
A long disoussion then took plaoe on the subject of the Codlin Moth Bill, and ulti-
mately the following resolution was adopted:— " That in the opinion of this Association, the method of dealing with the Codlin Moth, embodied in the Codlin Moth Bill now before the Legislative Council will be expensive, burdensome, and useless, as not being founded on complete or accurate knowledge of the evil to be remedied, and as not providing any effectual remedy; and that, therefore, it is desirable that the Bill may not pass."
