CONCERT AT RICHMOND.

On Friday evening last a eoneert in aid of the fnnds of the Richmond Library, was given in the Oddfellows' Hall in that town. Tho performers consisted mainly of the member* of the Tonic Solfa class conducted by Mr James Blair. The first part of the entertainment (sacred music) opened with a pianoforte solo by Mrs Nightingale, •which was applauded bo heartily that a repetition was necessary. The anthem " Wake the Song of Jubilee," and the hymn " Come nnto Me," were then given by the olaßß. Mrs Harkness sang " Gates of the West," and Miss Tovey "Love on," both pieces being highly appreciated by the audience. The anthem JLoud through the World proclaim," the hymn " Saviour and Friend," and the anthem "0, Clap your hands," brought the sacred portion of the music to a oloso. Though coma of the prominent members of the class were unable to attend, the music was well rendered, and the audience signified its appreciation by hiirty applause. The second part consisted of songs and choruses by the class, including the lullaby "0, Hush thee, my Baby," by Sullivan; "Over the Ice, 11 "Hammer Song," and " Weber's '"Huntsman's Chorui," from Der Friesahutz, with several others. Mrs Hardness Bang " 'Tia all One to Me," which was encored, and Mrs Tovey sang "Bide a Wee," whioh was a'so deservedly encored. M Croucher sang "Maid of Athens," and lady was also persistently fa cored. Tbe whole entertainment was a decided success, and, though the Hall was not full, the attendance was as good as might be expected from tbe state of tbe weather, and the epidemic of colds and other ailments at present afflicting the district, and the Library will receive a welcome addition to its funds. Perhaps one of the chief items of interest connected with the Concert is that it is the first in which tbe merits of the Tonic Solfa system were exhibited, and the result is certainly gratifying, the progress made .by the members of the class being sufficient to pro miss a great development of musical ability in time to come.
