PRESENTATION.
A very pleasant gathering took place at the Masonio Hotel on Thursday, Sept. '22, when about forty gentlemen, members of the Nelson Rowing, Tennis, and Football 'Clubs met for the purpose of wishing God spaed to Mr Etheridge Jaokson, late of the Public': Works Department, who is about to leave Nelson. The; Chairman then, presented Mr Jackson witlUa tastef ally illuminated addres ', oxtcuted by MrToplhs, and also with a purse of sovereigns, The address Was as follows !• -"To Etheridge Jackson,Esq —Dear Sirj—A number of tho -members of the Nelson Bowing Football, and Lawn Tennis Clubs begio ask.your acceptance,of the accompanying purse of sovereigns as a small recognition of the many services rendered by you: in connection with the above Clubs during your residence in Nelson. It is much to be regretted that these Clubs, as well as your numerous friends throughout the Nelson District, are about to be deprived of your co-operation and good fellowship, as during the >■ time you. have been, resident amongst them your character, has caused you to be universally popular and respected, both in your public and social capacities. Your friends, while regretting the fact that you are leaving Nelson, trust that your future will be a prosperous one wherever your , lot may bo cast, and beg you to. believe that they will always be truly pleased to hear of your future welfare.- Signed on behalf of the subscribers, Jas. ■ Belinda*, President Nelson Bowing Club; J. The Chairman then proposed the health of Mr Jackson, which was drunk with musical honors amid ringing cheers. Mr Jackson responded in feeling' terms, expressing regret at, his approaching departure from Nelson. A very pleasant evening was spent, many really good songs being sung, and the meeting broke up a little before eleven.
