WAIMEA ROAD BOARD.
TUESDAY, January 4,
The Board met at the Richmond Institution. All the members present except Messrs. Baigent, Tunnieliflv, Bell, and Jordan.
Thd minutes of last meeting having been read, the Ovehseee reported that several of, the '.day-labor men have availed themselves of the liberty, as granted an former' occasions, to absent themselves from work during-the harvest. With regard to the most suitable place to obtain material'for filling in the ditches en each side of Borty-line, I have examined the locality, and consider that it will be more easily got from the Wai-iti river than from elsewhere. Thcsum of £4 10s granted to bye-road at Kanzau, together ■with ifs equivalent, has been expended.in gravelling.. The deviation of road known as Ford's Hill should he.proceeded with as. coon as; possible, if it is the Board's intention to undertake this work, as also. any contemplated improvements on the Moutere...Hills,road ; these worksbeine principally fillings, sufficient time should be allowed for the.settling down before, the winter The Eighty-eight Valley bridge requires painting, also the foot-bridge over the Wai-iti. I should suggest that some hematite be procured,, and all the smaller bridges be painted by the day-labor men. It will be necessary to coat the road in front of Mr Meara' for a length of twenty chainij; this work can be done at one-third the cost during the summer; if left till the-winter, being at such a distance from the gravel-(that'is the. rivpr), the carts will create ■work as they go on. The time having elapsed, uz., bix months, for the supply ot horses and carts in the different sub-districts, fresh tenders should be invited." ■
Resolved, That'tenders be! invited for supplying borsps and carfs, and that the other matters numed in the Overseer's repori, stand over till next month ; the purchase of the iiew road at Ford's Hill not being as yet completed, and some levelling being still to be done on the Moutere Hills,
Eeßolved, That the lender of H. Midgeley, afc £52, for lowering the bunk neir Mr Holland's, and filling the bollow, lsft wide, be accepted.
A letter Irom the Provincial Seoretary, in reply to one from the Board, reporting the acceptance of a tender for a bridge at Bell Grove, stated that the Government will be prepared to make payments on advance of that work as it progresses, on receipt on proper 'certificates'."'
A complaint having been made that a specification left at the1 Tuff Hotel had been allowed1 to be taken away, to the detriment of' an intending tenderer for ■work, it! was decided, that in future specifications be left at Mr Beattie's store. .
Warrants were issued for £174 18s. 4d.
