ME. VOGEL'S DETRACTORS.
To the Editor of the Colonist.
Sib,—Living as I do in Buch a secluded way among the mountains, and surrounded with bovine and other domestic animals, I should like to know who is the person who talks so loudly in praise of Mr. 0. Elliott, in fact stand* as a kind of god-father to this modest personage, whose claim to the suffrage of the. voters is—what ? How development! of the country, progress, and ultimate suooess, will be accomplished by Air. 0. Elliott's being returned as member for theNelson Suburbs I am at a loss to conjecture. la one sense he is oertainly worthy to wear the mantle> of the memberwhohusjustracatedthe scat, for he can talk "bosh" almost as well as his predecessor. If returned, Mr. Elliott sajs he would "let Mr. Yogel carry out his scheme, look sharply after the, cost, and cheque all wasteful extravagance ;" and very cheap all this work is for £100 honorarium! Really this idea is very fine. Mr. Elliott can no more alter his "policy" and tactics, than a rat can, simulate a little mouse. He has been, and always will be, an adjunct to the tail of the Stafford, Curtis, and Monro clique. Let the electors ponder well ere they return any man of his party to oppose Mr. Yogel or hit measures, especially after the open, candid, and straightforward conduct he has evinced towards the railway sohem>, which,, if carried ; out in its entirety*, will make Nelson Province thVnfbst, and most thriving of any in New Zealand. ;'#£'■ la conclusion, I trut there v iofflM tvm ift
