The mail steamer from the Cape brings intelligence) that the treaty for the annexation of the African diamond country to the British territory, had been finally concluded, and had produced much excitement in the territory. Mr. Brand, the President of the Free State, issued a formal protest against the transfer to Great Britain. The discovery of gold in considerable quantities in the Transvaal Eepublic, ii reported to have attracted many adventurous diamond seekers, who are abandoning the diamond districts for the newly discovered gold country.
