THE WAIKATO NATIVES.
' The "Wellington Evening Post of December 4th, says :—
" Auckland papers say that every succeeding item of intelligence fi"om Waikato tenda to allay apprehension for the safety of the outlying districts. The Maori King (says the Cross) condemns the proceedings of Tito Ko warn, Te Kooti; and other leading Hauhaus, because he forsees that by adopting the contrary course he would be merely following the lead of those chiefs, and -would, thus lose some of his rangatiratanga, or influence. It'ought, also to be stated that the Waikatos regard the natives of Wanganui as an in fer'or people, and are therefore disposed to follow an independent course."
