ARRIVAL OF MORE VOLUNTEERS AT WELLINGTON.

The s.s. Rob Roy, from Dunedin and Lyttelton, arrived at Wellington, on Nov. 29, with fifty-two recruits for the Armed Constabulary, two twelvepounder Armstrong guns, one case of rifles, and ftmr cases of ammunition. The men, it is stated, will be forwarded by the same vessel toNapier. THE NATIVE KING AGITATING A GENERAL RISING. The Wellington Evening Post of Nov. 28, sajs:— "On Saturday evening, Nov. 21, letters from certain natives up the river, were received in town —one of them by Mr. Buller, R.M. —intimating that the. King has signified his wish that there should be a general rising of the Hauhaus all over the island. The following is a copy of one of these documents : — ' Pipiriki, 19th November, 1868. ' To Mete Kingi, Matae, Kepa, Kawaua, Tamehann, Taiawhio, Hakaraia, and to all who live at Putiki Waraui. ' Friends, salutations ! Yesterday, at 12 o'clock, Tahana sent Rauriti to Papaiouru and Te Raho to Pipiriki, to ask me to go and see him. They came on to this place. Te P'iha and I returned with them, taking with me Wheraoiko Tureture. Tahana asked me if it was true that Poutiui and the rest of N^atihau had agreed to go and fight if they were sent for. I replied I have not heard. He said 'Ti3 al) right that you should go and fight, but do not go without first informing me that you may hear what I have to say. ' Thi9 is another word : the whole island has risen. The work for Tito Kowaru is from Te Ngutu-o-te-Mann to Pukenamu (Rutland Stockade) —He will not cross the Wanganui river. •Beginning at To Ngutu-o-te-Manu, and on to Mokau, the work is to be done by Te Whiti. 'From Mokau to Manukau, the work is to be done by some other man. ' From Manukau by way of Wahanui to Auckland and to Hauraki; from Hauraki to Maketu, the work is to be done by Tuiwi. ' From Maketu to Ahuriri by some other man; from Ahuriri to Wellington, from Wellington to Wangaehu, and no further in that direction, i.e. not to Wanganui,—the reason is the word of Tawhino, ' Do not commit evil in Wanganui [river] ; let Wanganui be the clear place iv the whole ialaud, although all the rest of the island should be at war, let Wanganui river be open as a window.' ' Should any Hauhnu wish to join his relatives on the Queen side, although he may be living in Auckland or Wellington, he must go by the Wanganui river only ; should such a man be living at Auckland or the Thames he must only go by way of Wanganui. ' This aleo is the word of Tawhiao to Rewi, the bit of the bridle is in the mouth of Wanganui, namely, Tahana and Topia; the reins are in my hands and shall not go out of my hands.' "It is difficult, indeed impossible, to say what amount of weight should be attached to the above. By itself, one might afford to thiuk little of the thing, but aB it is only one of many, and the natives all speak in similar term 3, it would be foolish to take no notice of it. Affairs are bad enough without any farther addition or complication, which any such, rising would assuredly be, but we shall not prevent it by merely shutting our eyes to its possibility. The current of events must be watched narrowly ; an unwavering front must he maintained; nil desporandum; and mayhap the threatened blow may be averted."
