OUTRAGE BY THE BLACKS AT ROCKHAMPTON, QUEENSLAND.

MURDER OF A SERGEANT AND THREE TROOPERS.

The BocJchampton Bulletin of the 6th of June, states :—"The blood of Mr. Hill and his party has scarcely dried when we have to chronicle another murderous outrage perpetrated by the blacks. The victims this time are a sergeant and three troopers of the native police force. They were riding through the scrub on the Rio station, when they were suddenly set upon by a number of blacks, and all four murdered. The place where they were attacked is about five miles from the head station. But a few days before, Mr. Turner, the superintendent of Mr. Thompson's station, was attacked by a party of blacks, supposed to be the same, and had a narrow escape from death, having been knocked from his horse by a nullah nulluh. These frequent and fatal outrages will surely induce the Government to grant more police protection to the northern districts. If a stop is not put to the murderous tendencies of the native population, and that speedily, life will scarcely be safe even in the viciuity of Rockhampton —for it must be remembered that the Rio station is only aY out fifty or sixty miles from town. If efficient protection be not given, the country settlers will be forced, in self-defence, to take the law into their own hands."
