WAIPA CRICKET

FINAL SHIELD MATCH RESULTS IN A DRAW The final Waikato Shield cricket match between Central King Country and Matamata was played oh Albert Park last Saturday and resulted in a draw. Each Association will be bracketed as winners of the trophy for the 1949-50 season. Perfect weather conditions made the ground fast and the wickets played excellently. Matamata went in to bat first and occupied the crease for 185 minutes. A solid innings by Spence for 38, and a brisk 22 by Leadbeater, improved Matamata’s position. Doyle kept the batsmen subdued, finishing with four wickets for 32 off 20 overs. Ord and Edwards also gave good assistance with the ball. Central King Country replied with an exceedingly slow exhibition of batting. Except for an excellent knock of 49 not out by Clarke and a 21 by Hawkin, none of the Central King Country batsmen could handle the bowling. Hawke was batting well .when run out in attempting to run three overthrows. Malone bowled impressively in taking five wickets for 17 runs from 13 overs.

An appeal against the light at 5.30 ended play with the score at 107 for 8 wickets. .The innings lasted 185 minutes.
