HARVEST FESTIVAL
HELD AT TE RAU-A-MOA PLENTIFUL SUPPLIES OF GOODS The annpal Harvest Festival was held in Te Rau-a-Moa Hall on 3rd March, when there was a good attendance of church people and a plentiful supply of fruit, flowers, vegetables, cakes, home-bottled preserves, eggs, etc. After a short religious sendee conducted by Rev. Mr Roke, a Dutch auction was held. Bidding was keen, and quick sales, interspersed with humorous interludes, resulted in a satisfactory effort, the proceeds being £9 2s 6d—and, in the words of Mr Churchill, “ So much from so few.’” The population of Te Rau-a-Moa is, the writer thinks, the smallest in Mi Roke’s district, and as such should feel proud of the result of the Harvest Festival.
During an interval light refreshments were served by Mrs Purser and assistants, and later a small token in appreciation of Miss Fay Kivell’s services in playing for church service was made. Fay had missed
only one service during her taking over—a commendable record.
The success of the evening was apparent. Everyone entered into the spirit of the function and, generally speaking, it can be quoted as a happy gathering.
