Small Hotels Favoured

A chain of hotels, with not more than 30 bedrooms but with bathrooms attached, was advocated for New Zealand by the Minister in charge of Health and Tourist Resorts (Mr F. W. Doidge) when he was met by a deputation from the Queenstown Borough Council. The deputation inquired about the Government’s policy on the erection of a hostel at Queenstown. He did not agree with the idea of a big luxury hotel, and the Government would hesitate before giving approval to more projects of such a nature, said Mr Doidge. It was not correct to say that the Government visualised scrapping its existing tourist hotels. It would give every encouragement to private enterprise.
