Tararoa Bridges Loan

A letter was received from the Local Government Loans Board by the Otorohanga County Council at its meeting last Monday, acknowledging receipt of copies of the written consents of ratepayers to the raising of a loan for the Tararoa bridges of £lOOO. It was stated in the letter that the Local Government Loans Board was now waiting for an Order-in-Council consenting to the loan- The engineer, Mr B. McKenzie, stated that the 25 foot joists were all that could be obtained immediately for the bridge, whereas the Ministry of Works required that there should be 35 foot joists. “They are providing for a flood that might not come in the next 100 years,” he said, adding that the water was passing through an opening 10 feet by four at the present time. The letter was received.
