INTOXICATED DRIVER
AWAKINO FARMER BEFORE COURT FINE IMPOSED AND LICENSE CANCELLED A fine of £lO with the cancellation of his driving license for 12 months was the penalty imposed on William Walker Tatham, by Messrs H. C. Rainey and A. E. Law, Justices of the Peace, at Te Awamutu on Monday when he was charged with being found in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor car on the Great North Road on Saturday. Mr P. S. Page appeared for Tatham and entered a plea of guilty on behalf of his client. Sergeant A. Bisset represented the Police. Evidence was given to the effect that Tatham had been arrested at 4.40 p.m. on Saturday by Traffic Officer D. T. Somerville, and Traffic Officer Gray (Matamata). A strong plea for the non-cancel-lation of Tatham’s license on the grounds of hardship was rejected by the Bench.
