WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

OPARAU ORGANISATION MONTHLY MEETING HELD The monthly meeting of the Oparau Women’s Institute was presided over by Mrs A. Randall. There was a large attendance of members, and a very enjoyable afternoon was spent. It was decided to hold a flower show about 20th January, 1950. Mrs E. M. Gilbert (senior) gave hints on mat-making with a sugarbag and wool on a machine. A competition was held, members having to identify kitchen, ingredients by their taste. Some were not the nicest to the palate, so that altogether the competition caused much amusement.

It was decided to hold a celophanepaper hat-making competition at the December meeting. The competitions resulted: Mrs W. Sobye and Mrs Mlartin Clark, equal, 1. Single bloom: Mrs E. Boggust and Mrs C. F. Barrett, equal, 1. The display of flowers was a beautiful one. The hostesses Mesdames E. Mi Gilbert, J. Parkinson, and A. Carmichael, provided a very dainty afternoon tea.

It was reported that six food parcels had been despatched overseas during the past month.
