The engineer reported to the monthly meeting of the Waitomo County Council that a good start had been made with formation work on the Hauturu-Putake Road over the first three miles section of the road by Council employees. Tenders had been called for metalling. Remarkable. Occurrence
A six-tooth Romney ewe on the property of Mr Vic Evans, at Paemako, following giving birth to a lamb early in August, delivered a second lamb on Wednesday—-a remarkable occurrence. It is quite common for ewes to deliver twins a day or so apart, and cases occur where they are born seven days from each other; but it is almost unheard of to have twin lambs born with two months’ difference in their ages.
Those Wasps Again A resident of Hautapu this week removed an old cow cover which had been protecting a passion fruit vine during the winter. In the folds were 55 queen wasps, apparently just in the stage of waking up to come out and enjoy the warmer spring weather. Other reports state that queen wasps are being seen about again. Many of them can be found on window ledges, often still in a slight stupor after first emerging from winter quarters. They can be disposed of easily in this state.
Kawhia South Electricity It was reported at a meeting of the Waitomo Electric Power Board that opportunity was taken by the Board’s representatives during the conference of supply authorities go arrange interviews with Mr Davenport regarding the Kawhia South district, and the Director-General of Lands, Mr D. Greig, regarding the Mairoa district. Mr Davenport said it would be quite in order for the Board’s engineer to begin discussion of the scheme with the district electrical engineer at Hamilton. Mr Lee invited Mr Davenport to inspect the proposed Kawhia South reticulation scheme at the first available opportunity. There was a possibility that Mr Davenport might come next January.
