AMATEUR CYCLING

SATURDAY’S ROAD RACE

Saturday’s race to Parawera and back was held under very boisterous conditions. A field of 13 riders in the A section faced the starter. At the turn N. Redgate and Glasgow were still in the lead, followed by Hughes, Cameron, Schwarz and G. Redgate. Sklenars riding alone was next followed by Parsons also alone. Then came the scratch men, Coker, West and Rhodes who had caught Tayior and Crossley. At Kihikihi on the return journey, Redgate and Glasgow still held their lead with the others making up ground. In the run down to the finish Redgate just headed Glasgow with G. Redgate and Schwarz 5 seconds later and about 30 seconds ahead of the back-markers, of which Rhodes was the leading man from West and Coker.

Results: N. Redgate 1, K. Glasgow 2, G. Redgate 3. Time, C. Rhodes 47min lOsec, B. West 47min 12sec, P. Coker 47min 13sec.

Results of race to Orakau monument and back: R. Robertson 1. and fastest time, 40min 52sec, K. Miller 2.

Handicaps for next Saturday, when most of the seniors will be riding in Matamata Club’s open race: Schwarz scratch, Cameron Imin, Hughes, N. Redgate, McAlpine, Parsons 2min 30sec; J. Robertson 6min, Baxter llmin, Robertson and Miller 17min.
