OTOROHANGA COUNTY
NOXIOUS WEEDS INSPECTOR’S REPORT
PRESENTED TO COUNCIL MEETING
The noxious weeds inspector’s report as presented to last Monday’s County Council meeting at Otorohanga is as follows: Since last meeting I have systematically inspected infected areas and advised the occupiers to tackle their ragwort during the winter months, then they will be assured of a “kill” and relieve the pressure in the spring, and summer when cows are in and haymaking must be done. The same difficulty exists as has happened previously, no regular supply of sodium and atlacide, and unless a farmer can procure the poison when he needs it, makes it far more difficult to keep the weed under control, and what may gain in one season they lose in the next, some have resorted to arsenical poison but the risk is always there and I never advise their use unless stock can be kept away for quite a time. Road frontages are being cleaned up and this vile weather will play into the hands of some of them but I will see that the work is carried out.
