Tuatuamoana or Moana-tuatua?

In an address to the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce on experiments carried out by the Soil Research Station at Rukuhia, Mr Ivor Elliot referred to the large expanse of swamp lands in the triangle between Ohaupo, Te Awamutu and Leamington as Moanatuatua, an area which he said had been for many years known locally as the Tuatua-Moana swamp, but which henceforth should be called the Moana-tuatua swamp area. He gave as his authority for that name the Geographical Board, which had investigated the placenames of the Waikato and decided that the correct name was Moana-tua-tua.
