YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUB
TE AWAMUTU BRANCH DEBATING SHIELD PRESENTED The October meeting of the Te Awamutu Young Farmers’ Club was held on Friday evening in the Oddfellows Hall. Mr R. Pattison presided over a good attendance- of members. The main business of the meeting was the formation of a club library. A committee of three members was elected to compile this new feature and to select a librarian. The calfrearing competition is to be held again this year and members were urged to enter their groups. Mr R. Mandeno has kindly donated a prize for this competition. A stack building competition is to be arranged for the coming harvest season. It was reported that the club had contributed £149 to the National Memorial fund, the highest club total in the Waikato district. The remainder of the meeting was devoted to impromptu speeches on the various methods of farming. These proved interesting and helpful to young speakers. The meeting closed with supper. Presentation of Shiefd The Waikato Federated Farmers Debating Shield, which was won by the Te Awamutu team for the second time, was presented to them by Mr S. Smith, Te Awamutu president. In making the presentation Mr Smith said it was a pleasurable duty for him as he was keenly interested. He congratulated the young farmers and farming community and trusted they would eventually become the Federated Farmers of the future. Mr R. Simm very adequately expressed the thanks of the Club and team, referring to the excellent team spirit that they had throughout and the wonderful coaching that Mr Warring had given them.
