TE AWAMUTU UNION FINAL MEETING OF MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE The final regular meeting of the Management .Committee of the Te Awamutu Rugby Union was held on Monday night. The president, Mr R. S. Sinclair, was in the chair and the following members were present:— Messrs Smart, Reynolds, Atkinson, Vickers, Pargeter, Barton, G. Carter (secretary), D. Smail (treasurer). Mr T. Dalziell, the Union’s custodian, was also present. ,It was suggested to the Te Awamutu Primary Schools Sports Association that |it, together with other Primary School Sports Associations in the Waikato Union’s territory, press for a special grant from, the Waikato Rugby Union to meet the expenses of the Gwynne Shield competition, held in july of this year This could best be done through the Waikato Primary Schools Rugby Union delegate to the Waikato Rugby Union. Considerable thought was 4‘iven to the proposal that delegates’ travelling expenses, incurred in travelling to the local Union meetings, be paidIt was decided that delegates be paid at the rate of sixpence per mile one way.
It was reported that last Saturday’s seven-a-side tournament was' very successful. The thanks of the Union are extended to the Te Awamutu College Principal, Mr Rochfort, who made two grounds available. The Union’s congratulations go to the Ohaupo Club, who won three championships—those of the sth, 4th, and junior grades. All Clubs except Kia Toa, who were prevented by shearing obligations from participating, entered. In view of information received by the Union, it was decided that any overtures for re-instatement that N. Russ, who was recently suspended, may make, should be accepted for consideration. This decision will in due course be communicated to the player concerned. The representative team photographs recently taken have proved to be unsatisfactory. The matter has now been dropped for this season. Players may obtain copies of the photos but these are not to be regarded as official photos of representative teams for 1948. A letter of congratulation is to be sent to the Morrinsville Union, on their holding of the Finlay Cup. During 1948 the G. S. Clarke Cup competition was instituted. The purpose of this competition is to encourage clean football. The Cup has been won by the Ohaupo sth grade team, this team having, in the opinion of the Union’s referees, played the cleanest football.
