FEDERATED FARMERS
OHAUPO BRANCH ANNUAL MEETING HELD There was a large attendance at the annual meeting of the Ohaupo branch of Federated Farmers (Auckland Province). The chairman (Mr B. C. O’Connor) in his report, referred to the international trade charter at Geneva and its possible repercussions on farmer-ownership of freezing, works, .etc. It was claimed that there were over 40,000 members of Federated Farmers in New Zealand, of whom 10,000 . were in the Auckland Province, apart from 4000 in the Waikato Province affiliated to Wellington and 1400 in the Waikato affiliated directly to Auckland. Menace of Wasps During a lengthy debate on the wasp menace, it was disclosed that one member, Mr V. A. Karl, had destroyed 75 nests. Some of these nests contained thousands of queens all of which were potential hive-builders for next season. It was agreed that if a premium of so much per hive was paid as. was done in England, the menace might be kept within bounds. The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr B. C. O’Connor; vicepresidents, Messrs L. J. Turnwald, R. Chilcott and A. S. Karl; secretarytreasurer, Mr J. M. Turney; sub-pro-vincial delegates, Messrs R. Chilcott and E. G. Sanson. The executive also includes Messrs W. Edwards, C. C. Horscroft, W. W. West, and A. Harrison.
