CLOTHES DRIVE
SATURDAY’S SUCCESSFUL APPEAL SPLENDID RESPONSE BY PUBLIC Over three thousand garments for children in devastated areas of Britain and Europe were collected last Saturday when a drive organised by the Te Awamutu Red Cross Society was carried out. Mr T. L. Coupland was • a tower of strength, and the Society owes him a debt of gratitude for his organising ability and for much personal hard work put in. Mr Reg Jones was another valiant worker to whom the Society is indebted, and he too spared no personal efforts to help make the drive the success it proved. The public responded admirably and generously, and doubtless if they could see the joy with which their gifts will ultimately be received they would feel amply repaid for sacrifices made. The Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, and Brownies lent valued assistance in helping to collect the parcels, and their good deed for the day was an excellent one and splendidly done. On Monday the ladies of the Red, Cross spent many hours in sorting and packing the articles into parcels, which will be sent to Hamilton for transmission abroad. The Red Cross Society is deeply grateful to all who so willingly assisted.
