Wrestling Club The Waipa Wrestling Club has concluded arrangements for a visit of the Tauwhare Wrestling Club to Te Awamutu, when some keen contests can be expected. Flower Show The spring flower show of St. John’s Church, to be held in the Parish Hall to-morrow holds promise of r. most attractive display. Almost a record entry of all classes has been received and the preparations were finalised at a meeting of the responsible committee yesterday in expectation of a large public attendance. Park Entrance Gate At the meeting of the Borough Council on Monday a request was made on behalf of the Bowling Club that the gate at the entrance to Victoria Park be removed to be replaced with a chain. Councillors agreed to effeqt the desired change, but remarked that in the future if the bowling greens suffered the effect of the removal the blame would not necessarily be due to the Council. Assistant County Engineer It was stated during the progress of last Monday’s meeting of Waipa County Council that applications for the position of assistant engineer would close next Monday. A committee, consisting of the chairman, the clerk, and the engineer, was empowered to make an appointment. The vacancy resulted froni the appointment of Mr D. E. Trevarthen, present assistant engineer, as engineer to Piako County Council. Can a Nuisance Be a Benefit ? This question was raised in a discussion about a drain at Monday’s meeting of Waipa County Council. It concerned the drainage from a dairy-shed yard, the owner having been advised to trap the outflow in a pit. But the farmer had asked what would happen when the pit became full, as it would naturally do. That brought the comment from a councillor that on his own farm such a pit was a valuable fertilising agent, equalling, he thought, almost £lOO per annum in fertiliser value. Aid to Housing In view of the suggestion that voluntary help should be. given by citizens to transit housing at Te Awathe results at Cambridge will ba noted with interest. In the course of a report on Kiwi Flats, the financial statement presented to the meeting of committee last Friday showed that in the capital account as at September 12, 1946, donations amounted to £4673 17s lid, made up of £1348 15s from the War Assets Realisation Board, £2655 from the Cambridge and District Rehabilitation Auxiliary, being public subscriptions, and £670 2s in materials donated. The committee decided to proceed with the erection of two more flats.
