GOOD PRICES MAINTAINED Newton King Ltd. report as follows: A good yarding of sheep, compris- : ing mainly fat hoggets and wethers, ' was penned to meet with strong competition from exporters and local butchers, with values firm on late rates. Extra prime heavy fat wethers realised *42s 3d to 49s 3d, with heavy wethers from 39s to 41s 6d, and light fat wethers 35s 9d to 38s 3d; medium prime fat hoggets 375. to 39s 3d, fat hoggets 29s to 365, lighter sorts 24s 3d to 28s; heavy fat ewes 2,4s'to 28s, 6d, medium-quality, ewes 24s to 28s, lighter sorts 18s to 225. Competition was -strong on a small entry of store hoggets, L~dt wether hoggets making 27s 9d to 29s 3d, medium hoggets 25s 6d to 275; a line of well-grown ewe hoggets made 345, and several lines of ewes with lambs at foot realised 17s to 17s 9d (all counted). A large yarding of store cattle consisted mainly of two-year and yearling sorts; values below' vendors’ expectations were apparent throughout the sale, and forward-condition cattle were keenly sought, with 3-year bullocks making up to £l2 19s. Quotations: Light fat heifers £l2 7s, fat cows £l2 ss, fat cows ex dairy £7 14s to £8 10s, two-year Polled Angus steers £8 13s to £9, yearling Polled Angus steers £7 4s to £7 10s, smaller yearling Polled Angus steers £5 to £5 ss, small £3 10s to £4 ss, two year empty Polled Angus heifers £6 to £7 14s, small £5 5s to £5 15s, good yearling Polled Angus hoifers £5 17s. smaller £4 10s to £5 ss, small £2 to £3. Yearling. Heifer Section; An increased yarding came forward, and good interest was displayed throughout, and for quality cattle bidding was exceptionally keen, values rising again on our last sale. Top-quality yearlings made £9 5s to £lO 6s (from a choice line from, Mir W. W. Head, Te Rore), best Jersey yearlings £8 5s to £9, medium £6 15s to £7 15s, small and unfinished £3 10s to £5 10s. A fair yarding of dairy cattle was penned, with a small number of quality cattle offering, which were keen of sale and values firm on late quotations. Poorer sorts met with little demand. Best quality heifers realised from £l5 to £l6 10s, medium heifers £l2 to £l4, poorer and backward sorts £8 10s to £lO 10s. Boner cattle were forward in large numbers, and all classes met with spirited competition from exporters. •Graziers were in the market for two-year-old heifers, with prices above recent rates; any cattle carrying condition showed an improvement in late values. Forward cows and heifers ex dairy £8 to £9 (according to weight), lighter sorts £6 10s to £7 10s, meaty works cows £5 15s to £6, average to medium cows £4 5s to £4 15s, light boners £2 15s to £3 10s, good-quality two-year heifers £5 to £5 10s, others £4 15s upward, heavy bulls £7 to £7 10s. Pig Section; A medium yarding of pigs was penned, comprising baconers and stores, and competition was keen; with realisations on a par with other centres. Choppers were yarded in small numbers, and bidding was not very spirited. We quote; Choppers £3 *los to £8 10s, heavy baconers £5 5s to £5 10s, medium £4 15s to £5 3s, porkers £3 5s to £3 18s, large stores £2 10s to £2 14s, smaller sorts £1 18s to £2 2s, weaners 12s to £1 2s.
