R.S.A. CLUB

APPEAL FOR £7OOO CAMPAIGN STARTED TO-DAY The appeal for £7OOO to enable the Te Awamutu Returned Services’ Association to build a club was launched to-day. The following circular letter, signed by Messrs George Spinley (chairman), S. C. B. Macky (deputychairman), A. J. Tailby (hon. secretary), H. C. Date (hon. treasurer), of the appeal committee was issued:— Knowing that the Te Awamutu and District Returned Services’ Association have for some years now expressed their intention of raising sufficient funds with which to build an adequate club and that desire being particularly strong at the present time, His Worship the Mayor, supported by the chairman of the Waipa County Council and at the wish of many of our citizens convened a public meeting where it was decided that it would be a fitting tribute to our district overseas service members if the public generally raised the funds and presented them to the R.S.A. for the purpose stated. To arrive at some definite idea as to what would be required, a sub-committee was set up to meet the R.S.A. executive.

This was done and following their report and an outline of the scheme by the R.S.A. president, it was unanimously decided to launch an appeal for £7OOO. This provides for a permanent building complete with social hall, billiard room, reading room, provision for women’s section, secretary’s office and ante-rooms. It is expected that this will meet their requirements for all times. The R.S.A., through their own efforts, have purchased a section in Alexandra Street, near the “Big Tree” where they proposed to erect the building. The foregoing is a resume of the proceedings to date and it only remains for each and every member of the community to recognise the service that has been rendered and give generously to make this appeal successful. We therefore recommend the appeal to you with every confidence and ask for your full support. The appeal opens on the Ist October and closes on the 31st October, 1945. Just one month, and it is hoped with your assistance to show a very fine effort oh that date. Receipts will be issued and a list published, non-de-plumes will be accepted.
