HEALTH STAMPS

CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE FORMED PRELIMINARY ARRANGEMENTS MADE A meeting of the Health Stamp Campaign Committee was held in the Post Office on Monday night. Those present were Messrs F. J. Shearer (postmaster), F. Burke, J. H. Ansell, J. Sterritt (representing the Rotary Club), A. C. Boyt (Chamber of Commerce), H. Rochfort (Te Awamutu District High School), N. F. Rigby (Te Awamutu Primary School), A. J. Tailby (public representative), and A. S. Prisk. An apology was tenered on behalf of Mr_J. H. Hanratty (chief postmaster, Hamilton), who was prevented at a late hour from being present. Mr Shearer welcomed those present.

It was decided, on the motion of Messrs Shearer and Ansell, that those present, with one representative of the women’s organisations, be a committee to foster the sale of health stamps. Mr Shearer was appointed chairman and Mr Prisk secretary. The chairman explained the aims and objects of-the campaign and the duties of committees. He read a circular from the New Zealand Federation of Health Camps (Inc.), Wellington. Mr Shearer stated that he had inadvertently omitted to extend an invitation to Father G. M. Colgan to attend the meeting, and suggested that Father Colgan be invited to be present at next meeting as representative of the Convent School.— The meeting approved the suggestion.

It was proposed that the chairman and the secretary should undertake advertising of the campaign in the Courier, and that, if possible, the business houses be approached with a view to having a line or two added to the foot of their advertising space referring to the issue of first-day covers and health stamps for health camps. The proposal was adopted. Approval was also given a suggestion that the chairman inquire from the District Office, Hamilton, if screen would be available for use at local theatres.

An endeavour will be made to procure at least another 1500 first-day covers.
