ELECTRIC POWER BOARD

81-MONTHLY MEETING FOREMAN’S REPORT The electrical engineer (Mr E. Bryant) submitted the following report to Te Awamutu Electric Power Board on Friday:— Twenty-six assorted Australian hardwood poles have been received and stacked at the railway yard; 46 poles were erected, of which 24 were for construction work and 22 Aw maintenance. Ellicott’s Block volt extension was completed and livened on 17th July, and overhauling of lines was done throughout the area where required; 85 chains of No. 12 B.Cu. were changed to 7/16. The peak load recorded to date for the present quarter is 2659 k.v.a., 2538 n.w. at .954 p.f.; the power allocation has not been exceeded during the period. Owing to a fault developing at Arapuni on 10th ’September it was necessary to reduce load on our system between the hours of 6.55 p.m. and 8.45 p.m. Five additional transformers were erected at Ellicott’s Block extension, one changed owing to a defect, and four changed to larger units; one new transformer was received and 40 gallons of oil were filtered; loading tests on transformers are being taken. Three static condensers have been repaired. Three street lights, together with wiring and control box, were erected at Te Kawa township, and the following lamps were replaced on street lighting circuits: Borough (mercury vapour) 4, borough (series) 8, Ohaupo 4, and Kihikihi 1, a total of 17. Sixteen lamps were replaced on the community lighting circuits. Earthleakage relay batteries received attention at Tokanui, Kaipaki, and Ouruwhero sub-stations; 50 service lines were erected, 289 services overhauled, and a number altered; 15 services were re-connected and 23 disconnected. The vehicles travelled 12,310 miles during the period. The usual fault work has been done, and trees that were causing trouble to lines at Korakonui were trimmed. A proposed extension at Atua Block, Pukeatua, for the Lands and Survey Department was surveyed and the application and plans forwarded to Wellington and Hamilton. Mr Jacobson, of Cambridge Road, applied for an extension line to his property; on investigation it was found that this property is situated in Cambridge Electric Power Board’s area, and it will be necessary for us to obtain the Cambridge Board’s authority to supply the applicant. On the motion of Messrs G. S. Hall and L. A. Johnston it was decided to apply to the Cambridge Board for permission to supply power to Mr Jacobson’s property.

Members who attended the meeting were the chairman (Mr J. T. Johnson) and Messrs L. Kay, L. A. Johnston, V. A. De Coek, G. S. Hall, S. C. B. Macky, and G. Donaldson. The secretary-manager (Mr M. Barnett) was also present. Leave of absence was granted Colonel J. Matson and Mr E. H. Rhodes.
