SALE OF HEALTH STAMPS
FORTHCOMING CAMPAIGN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE APPOINTS REPRESENTATIVE Mr F. J. Shearer, Postmaster, at last night’s meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, asked for support in the forthcoming campaign for the sale of Health Stamps. The revenue from such sales was to help the less fortunate children by providing for holidays for such at the children’s camp at Port Waikato. It was proposed to set up a local committee and he asked that the Chamber appoint one member to that body. Mr Shearer outlined the composition of such a committee which in towns where they existed included doctors, education boards, hospital boards, headmasters, mayors, Red Cross, Rotary, school committees, scoutmasters, theatre proprietors, town clerks, W.D.F.U., Y.M.C.A., Y.W.C.A., N.Z. Education Institutes, etc. Mr A. G. Warburton, while agreeing that it was a most worthy object, said they could not forget that once they were told that such things would be provided as by right. A subsidy of £1 for £3 by Social Security was a very small amount. In view of the large Social Security funds it was deplorable that such appeals continued. He would like to see a member of the Chamber who was keenly interested volunteer for the position of representative*. Mr A. C. Boyt offered to act, and on the motion of the chairman and Mr Warburton, Mr Boyt was appointed. The Health stamps of this year will feature a picture of the famous Peter Pan statue in London. There are two stamps, one costing lid (being Id postage, id health!, and 3d (2d postage and Id health). They are unique in that they are the first two colour issue of health postage stamps. Health stamps have proved a good investment as previous issues to-day command high prices.
