EDUCATION AFFAIRS

THE PRIMARY SCHOOL MEETING OF COMMITTEE The first meeting of the year of the Te Awamutu Primary School Committee was held on Friday night. There were present Messrs J. Waters, L. S. Armstrong, E. Menary, G. M. Wall, A. B. White, E. T. S. Short, J, apology was received and sustained apology was receive dand sustained from Mr Ward. The headmaster (Mr N. F. Rigby) and the secretary (Mr L. A. Johnston) were also present. Mr L. S. Armstrong was re-elected chairman for the ensuing two years. Members paid tributes to Mr Armstrong’s unfailing zeal and interest in the school and its affairs. Headmaster’s Report The headmaster (Mr N. F. Rigby) submitted the following report which was adopted:—Average attendances: Week-ending 7th April, 523.5; week ending 14th April, 506.7; week ending 21st April, 506.0; week ending 28th April, 504.1; average for four weeks, 510; present roll, 576. I wish to report that Miss Bowler is now back on duty after her long illness. Miss Garvey, who was relieving in her place, remained on the staff as a supernumerary teacher until sth May. Nurses Milroy and Dobson visited the school during the month for the purpose of a medical examination of the children throughout the school. The builder is making very good progress with the erection of the new dental clinic. The grass on the football area has been cut. I suggest that sheep be put on at the beginning of the holidays and removed three or four days prior to the re-opening of the school on Tuesday, May 23rd. Two wreaths were made at the school and placed on the Cenotaph on Anzac Day. I have ordered 15 gallons of Dust-e-lac. School Committees’ Association It was decided to join the School Committees’ Association on the motion of Messrs Waters and Short. Parent-Teachers’ Association Messrs Wall and Menary were reappointed the Committee’s representatives on the Parent-Teachers’ Association. Meeting Night It was decided to meet on the second Friday in each month. District High School Messrs R. H. Westbrook and L. W. Spence were appointed to the District High School Committee. Request Refused A brief discussion took place on the motion that thle request made at the annual meeting of householders that the Committee’s representatives on the High School Committee press for an investigation into the organisation and control of the High School, resulted in the Committee declining to act as requested.
