CONCERN OVER DELAY
LAND TRANSACTIONS A decision to request the Government to speed up the work of land sales committees was made at the monthly meeting of the Waikato SubProvincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union. It was indicated that mow speed was needed particularly in the transfer of farm land, as delay caused uncertainty and held up preparation for the new season’s production. The position was chaotic, said Mr F. C. Roberts, who said there hhd been delays ranging from one to three months. The crux of the whole matter was that there were not sufficient committees, said Mr G. A. Walsh. The committees did not possess enough local knowledge in some cases and had to reserve decisions until they procured such knowledge.
To encourage farmers to offer their farms for sale in furtherance of rehabilitation of soldiers and to remove the fear .which it was stated, had made likely vendors withdraw their farms from sale, a resolution was passed asking that farmers be allowed, upon the payment of a small fee to have the basic value of their properties fixed without the penal clauses of the Act operating.
