Promising Youngsters
.The two Auckland three-year-olds, Sir Standfast and Te Kiwi, which finished first and second in the maiden at Hastings on Saturday were impressive. Sir Standfast, as his name implies, is by the successful Mr Standfast, whose stock are winning all along the line. He is a good-looking three-year-old colt out of Lauditory, by Lapidary from Spotts Queen. it is not a stud book family and Sir Standfast was bred by JL Clothier, Matamata.
Will Stay Te Kiwi, whose performance was very solid, as he came right from the rear of the field, can boast of a stout pedigree. He is by Kincardine (who, it is now clear, only wanted decent opportunities) out of Wiwini, by Tea Tray—Piraeus, by Demosthenes— Formula by Hotchkiss—Formo, by Sterlingworth from the imported Rosicrucian mare Pulchra. Pulchra was imported by Mr G. G. Stead and was the dam of Multiform and Monoform and grand-dam of Foremost.
7000gns. Refused The Sydney sportsman who races under the nom-de-plume of “M. Lundren” has refused an offer of 7000 guineas for his two-year-old colt Moorland, which has been unbeaten in his two starts this season. He had previously refused 4000 guineas soon after Moorland had won the Breeders’ Plate last October. Two-year-olds of class have been in demand this season. Among other offers recently refused were 3000 guineas for Mayfowl and 2500 guineas for Macarthur, states the Sydney Morning Herald. Moorland is by Felerag (imp.), a descendant of the male line of Carbine and one of his sire’s first crop of foals which were reared at the Hobartville Stud, Richmond, by Mr Percy Reynolds, one of the oldest breeders in New South Wales. Mr “M. Lundern” bought Moorland as a yearling for 210 guineas. So far the colt has won £l3OO.
