TE MAWHAI FUNCTION

MR AND MRS H. KINNAIRD HONOURED One of those friendly, yet successful functions which are characteristic of this end of the Waikato, was held at Te Mawhai on Monday. The occasion was to say boodbye to Mr and Mrs H. Kinnaird, of the Tokanui Hospital Estate, who are leaving after many years association.

Mr and Mrs Kinnaird have been actively engaged in the social life at Te Mawhai. First when the school was the centre for functions and latterly the Red Cross and other patriotic efforts of which Mrs Kinnaird was an enthusiastic supporter.

Under such circumstances, as was to be expected, there was a large attendance of Te Mawhai and Tokanui ladies. After afternoon tea, on behalf of the residents, Mrs A. D. Falconer, with a few appropriate words, presented Mrs Kinnaird with a beautiful navy leather handbag, also handing over a chromium ash tray and stand fnr Mr Kinnaird.

Mrs W. Bruce presented the guest of the afternoon with a lovely posy, consisting of French marigolds and fem.

Mrs Kinnaird briefly replied on behalf of both, and that part of the proceedings culminated in the company singing “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” During the afternoon songs were feelingly rendered by Mrs Earwaker and Mrs G. Ramsay, while competitions arranged by Mrs A. McFarlane were highly successful interludes in a pleasant afternoon. Those present were Mesdames B. Unwin, E. Perrott, W. Bruce, E. Condon, A. D. Falconer, A. McFarlane, R. H. Gray, M. Oates, H. Owens, G. Fraser, F. Price, H. McAlpine, G. Cruickshanks, D. Kemp, E. Croasdale, A. Crawley, Earwaker, G. Ramsay, B. Broadbent, P. Short, J. Short, K. Wilson, Pearce and T. A. Rushbrooke. Misses P. Oates, E. Mills, Z. Cruickshanks. Other residents sent apologies for their absence.
