POSITION IN TE AWAMUTU The prolonged dry spell experienced through the Auckland province has been responsible for a big drop in the milk supply, a well known dairy executive remarking that it is the most unfavourable autumn for production for at least five years. Many farmers have been feeding out ensilage for some weeks and their stocks will be exhausted long before the usual time. One district farmer has dried off his herd of 40 cows and others are contemplating a similar move. Fairly good stocks of hay* are held on some farms, but unless rain falls soon the outlook for the winter will be precarious.
