FARMERS’ TRUCKS
PLATE “H” REGISTRATIONS DUE A farmer was recently convicted for transporting his own stock in his own truck without the necessary authority, and farmers have received the impression that none of them are allowed to do this. The position is that farmers owning trucks weighing with their loads over two tons are not allowed to cart their own stock without the authority of their local goods transport- control committee. In the case of “L” plate trucks and car trailers, the Minister of Transport on November 10, 1942, gave a direction to all committees that owners of such vehicles may cart to or from any saleyard their own stock, but only within their own petrol licenses. Owners of trucks weighing with their loads over
two tons are now required to obtain a license from the Transport Licensing Authority before they can carry their own goods from one place to another. No fees are payable on an application for a license; but the authority may provide conditions according to his discretion. Trucks do not require to be licensed to carry milk or cream, but if they carry anything else they must be licensed. If trucks are used on the farm only, licensing is not required. The matter was briefly discussed at Friday’s meeting of the Te Awamutu Farmers’ Union, an intimation being given that necessary registrations are now due. The form must be filled in on both sides.
