THE TE AWAMUTU CLUB SUCCESSFUL GALA NIGHT The President and members of the Te Awamutu Swimming Club have every reason to be satisfied with the success which marked the gala night held in the swimming baths on Friday evening last. That considerable interest had been created in the meeting was demonstrated by the large attendance of spectators, while there was, despite “the nip in the air,” competitors aplenty, with the result that the various events were eagerly and, often-times, evenly contested. Kenealy 1, D. Armstrong 2. The President (Mr S. Wanklyn) and Mi - W. G. S- Smith, in happy speeches, thanked the spectators for their attendance and support, and the competitors for their enthusiastic assistance, and bespoke for the Club a continuance of public support. In response to its appeal for funds, generous donations have been received from the following:—Messrs L. G. Armstrong, Doug. McAlpine, Syd. Smith, A. J. Sinclair, D. McArthur, F. J. Bertram, W. J. Craik, M. Barnett and W. G. Park. These gentlemen are cordially thanked for their ready response. The Club is indebted to Messrs Nelson and Braid, who so generously donated the paint necessary for the painting of the diving platform, also for the rails at the baths. Enthusiastic committeemen did the painting. If not as first-class tradesmen, they at least displayed commendable ability.
