FISH-CANNING AT TAURANGA PERMISSION GRANTED By the reversal of the decision of the Bureau of Industries permission has now been granted for the establishment of a fish-canning business in Tauranga by John Kalund Limited, and ■steps are being taken almost immediately to get the project under way. The object of the concern is to can surface fish which abound in the waters off this coast. These will be taken by trawlers using a particular type of net, and it is proposed to export the fish canned, what is known as the waste being used for the manufacture of stock foods. When the project was first mentioned some months ago it was reported that the concern proposed starting in Whangaroa, and the necessary license was obtained. It was then learned that better facilities could be obtained in Tauranga, and the promoters decided to begin their operations there, providing the necessary permission of the Bureau of Industries could be obtained.
