WAIKATO RAM FAIRS
FLOCK SHEEP IN DEMAND Rams from all over the North Island have come forward to meet the heavy demands for flock rams of keen benches of buyers at the series of fairs being held at the Claudelands showgrounds this month. Prices up to 151 guineas were paid for good flock Southdown rams early in the fair held by the Farmers’ Co-opera-tive Auctioneering Company, the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company and Dalgety and Company yesterday. Before a good bench of buyers the opening lot, 30 Southdown flock rams bred by the Hawera breeder, Mr S. C. Tonks, sold at from 7.1 to 9 guineas. On account of the Waverley breeder,
Mr A. E. Symes, a lot of 20 one-shear Southdowns realised from 81 to 91 guineas, while a further line of 20 rams on account of Mr J. E. Leech brought from 74 to 81 guineas. A lot of 30 Southdowns on account of Mr B. E. Franklin, Dannevirke, brought prices ranging from 9 to 15J guineas.
The stud Southdown rams were not in great demand, although they were of good quality. One ram, bred by Mr W. Slack, of Bunnythorpe, sold at 31 guineas, the purchaser being Mr G. Goodfellow, of Te Aroha.
