Miss D. Gerrand returned on Monday from a holiday visit to Rotorua. Miss S. Palmer, of Wynyard Street, has returned from a visit to Feilding.
Among the visitors to Kawhia is Mrs T. Robinson, of Upland Downs, Pirongia.
Mrs H. Morgan, of Auckland, is the guest of Mrs J. Turner, Beechy Street, Pirongia.
Mr and Mrs W. Tootill, of Puniu Road, are at present on a holiday visit to The Mount, Tauranga.
Mr P. J. Murtagh, of Te Mawhai, returned home yesterday after a visit to Wellington.
Mrs W. H. Bell, Miss Shirley Bell, and Miss Dede Beet left Pirongia on Monday for Kawhia, where they will ,spend a fortnight’s holiday.
Mrs C. M. Speedy, of Raikes Avenue, returned to Te Awamutu on Monday evening after a month’s holiday visit to Auckland.
Mr Russfell Sifleet, who recently met with a serious accident, has now returned to his home at Pirongia, and continues to make satisfactory progress towards recovery.
Friends of Mr and Mrs A. R- Mounsey, of Pirongia, will be pleased to learn that their youngest son, Maurice, although still in hospital, is now improving steadily.
Mr and Mrs C. W. Morey and family, of Fraser Street, who have been on a several weeks’ holiday at Waiheke Island, have returned to Te Awamutu.
Nurse E. J. Dobson has arrived in Te Awamutu from the Nelson district and taken up her duties as District Nurse, in place of Nurse G. S. Flamank, who recently resigned from the Department’s service.
Mr and Mrs R. Adams, of 38 Boundary Road, Claudelands, announce the engagement of their eldest daughter, Jean Wallace Adams, to Corporal Lester Hutchison White, New Zealand Tank Brigade, only son of Mrs L. McMillan, Palmer Street.
Mr J. W. Corboy, Clerk of the Magistrate’s Court at New Plymouth, who has been spending his holiday with his parents, Mr and Mrs A. R. Corboy, of Kihikihi, returned south during the week-end. He was accompanied by his wife and family.
Mr H. N. Freeman, a former master of the Cambridge Secondary School, has returned to Cambridge accompanied by Mrs Freeman and family. Mr Freeman is to join the Air Force as an instructor in mathematics and kindred subjects. During his absence fin the service of Mrs Freeman and family will reside in Cambridge.
Amongst those from Te Kuiti who have been selected and commenced work in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force are Misses Barrie Davenport, Jean Ireland and Rosalind Sheriff, of Pio Pio. Miss Davenport has been doing volunteer war work for some considerable time, included in which was the position of acting secretary to Captain Burgess.
The death has occurred of the Hon. Edward Dye, M.L.C., of Auckland, and formerly of Waihi, at the age of 63. He was appointed to the Legislative Council in 1936. He had been associated with the Labour movement for 40 years, and for 19 years was president of the Ohinemuri Mines and Batteries Union. He worked in the Waihi mines for many years and then went farming, which he followed for a number of years, before going to Auckland to live in retirement.
