NOXIOUS WEEDS
THE USE OF COMMON SALT, . DEPARTMENT’S ATTITUDE At to-day’s meeting of the Waipa County Council, the clerk to the Otorohanga County Council forwarded a copy of a reply received from the Minister of Agriculture as follows: “I have to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 17th December, together with copy of a letter to your neighbouring County Councils, relative to obtaining supplies of salt for ragwort eradication purposes. “In reply, I have to advise that in the first place I would suggest that your Council ascertain whether any of the freezing works in the Auckland district have supplies of used salt available for disposal, as this material is suitable for ragwort eradication. It is known that supplies are not plentiful; as, owing to import problems brought about by war conditions, some freezing works have had to recondition their used salt stock. However, it would be Worth while making enquiries if you have not already done so. “Should your Council decide to take steps to import supplies of salt, application would have to be made to the Customs Department for a license, and any such application would certainly ' receive the support of my Department. “My Department is prepared to reimburse. your Council with the cost of salt used under the noxious weeds eradication scheme off the saine basis as laid down for atlacide and sodium chlorate.”
