WILD BOAR HUNT

OUTLAWED LAMB KILLER. After a stern hunt along the foothills of the Rangitoto ranges, to the eastward of Otorohanga, a wild boar which for many years past has been keenly sought by the sheepfarmers of the foothills because of his depredations among the lambing flocks, has at last been laid low by a party of hunters from Otorohanga. The hunters, Messrs Merrin, Parkes and Nicholson (who had previously hunted the outlaw), were assisted by pigdogs who located the boar and bailed him, \ in some Scrub on Mr Hodder’s sheep run. The animal was quickly Shot, and an examination disclosed many scars of wounds made by dogs and hunters in previous fights, for he had been a much wanted pig. It was estimated that he weighed 350 lbs.; but his weight would have been very much heavier during the lamb-

ing season, some months off. It is estimated that this former leader of a large band of scavengers of the foothills has cost sheepfarmers many hundreds of pounds by the destruction of newly-born lambs, the piece de reistance of the leader and his retinue. The dead animal was photographed and, no doubt, his picture will adorn the homes of many sheepmen of the Rangitotos.
