SOCIAL EVENINGS. (Own Correspondent). A most enjoyable evening was held recently when several of Pirongia’s young folk assembled at the residence of Mrs M. J. Dixon. Games, competitions and singing were the order of the party. Mrs Dixon served a very tasty supper, and all present thoroughly enjoyed themselves. An evening was held at the residence of Mr Buchanan, of Pirongia, in honour of Mr J. Parr, who is shortly to be married. Cards, games, competitions, and singing were heartily participated in. Miss L. Wellington, of Te Awamutu, supplied excellent music. Messrs. Buchanan and E. Miller spoke in appreciative terms of the guest of the evening, and Mr Miller presented him with a beautiful chiming clock. Mr Parr made an appropriate acknowledgement. Miss Buchanan, the hostess, served a tasty supper.
TENNIS CLUB. The annual meeting of the Pirongia Tennis Club was held in the Library on Tuesday evening last, when a fair number of members and intending members attended. It was decided to hold the opening day on Saturday, September 30th. The following officers were elected: President, W. H. Bell; vice-presi-dents, Messrs T. Parkes, J. McGruther, A- E. Hood, A. K. McNaughton. J. L. Macky, T. Hartstone; committee, Messrs E. Miller, H. Hullten, M. Miller, T. Parkes, J. Parkes, H. West, T. K. McClunie, W. Payne, T. Bell, W. Hartstone, E. Randall; Mesdames, T. Bell, A.‘Dauby; Misses S. Bell, E. McNaughton, M. and C. Parkes; delegates, E. Miller, T. Parkes; club captain, E. Miller; vice-captain, T. Parkes; grounds committee, E. Miller, J. Parkes, T. Parkes, S. Bell, E. Randall. Mr E. Miller commented on the standard of last season’s play, and hoped that the club players would do as well this year.
CARD PARTY. A most enjoyable card party was held in the Public Library on Wednesday evening in aid of the Anglican Church funds. A bright fire made conditions cosy, and there was a good attendance, though the night was very wet and stormy. The tournament was enjoyed immensely, and Miss G. Bell and Mr E. Moeller were the winners. Consolation awards, went to Mrs G. Owen and Mr W. H. Bell. An appetising supper was served by the ladies. ST. JOHN AMBULANCE. The second of a series of instruction classes under the aegis of the St. John Ambulance organisation was held in the tennis pavilion on Monday evening last, when between twenty and thirty students attended. The lecture was given by Mr G. Stewart, superintendent of the Te Awamutu Brigade, and he was heartily thanked for his assistance. MAINLY PERSONAL. Mr W. Woolston, of Pirongia, has returned home from a most enjoyable holiday spent in and around Auckland.
Miss R. D. Aubin, of Auckland, spent last week-end with her sister, Mrs W. H. Bell, Pirongia. Mr Les. Dixon, of Blenheim, who is shortly to be married, is spending a few days with his mother, Mrs M. Dixon.
Friends will be pleased to hear that little Wendy Bell is to arrive home on Sunday from Waikato Hospital, where she has been a patient for the past five months. Mrs H. Burgess, of Pirongia, is spending a few days With relatives in Hamilton.
