OBITUARY

MR ALLAN ARTHUR BARKER. The death has occurred after a long illness of Mr A. A. Barker, aged 69 years. The late Mir Barker was born at Cromwell, Otago, and in early manhood followed the occupation of a gold-miner. Later, with his brother, he conducted the Glendhu sheep station in southern Otago.

About forty years ago he arrived in the King Country, and took up an area of Crown land at Kio Kio, which in the course of time he converted into a first-class dairy farm, and continued to reside on the property until a few months ago, when illness overtook him.

His father, the late Mr Jesse Barker, was a prominent gold-miner on the Otago fields, and afterwards returned to live at his birthplace, Ballarat (Victoria), until his death. The interment took place at Otorohanga cemetery, when there was a very large attendance of settlers and townspeople to pay their last respects to an industrious and very worthy settler.

Three brothers, three sisters, six daughters, and one son survive. The son is Mi’ H. J. Barker’ (Kio Kio) and the daughters are Mesdames A- J. Annan (Kio Kio), R. S. Annan (Otorohanga), C. Badley (Otorohanga), J. H. Little (Springdale), and W. E. Roberts (Kio Kio) and Miss Marjorie Barker (Kio Kio). One of the sisters is Mrs Young (Otorohanga).
