TENNIS ACTIVITY

CONFIDENCE IN COMING SEASON. WORK ON NEW, COURT. Confident that even under the present conditions it will see a successful and enthusiastic playing season, Te Awamutu Tennis Club intends to go ahead with the programme which was outlined for this year at its annual meeting. The Club has accepted a tender for the formation of one additional court in its grounds, a portion of Victoria Park, and the conditions of the tender provide that the new court will be ready for the opening of the new season on 7th October. Repairs to the other courts also will be carried out. The Club is to hold a dance on the evening of 7th October, and this is expected to be very largely attended in view of the altered position of Te Awamutu in the tennis world this year.

As it is anticipated that a large number of the men members of the Club will be offering for active service through the season, the Club committee has made special provision for the adjustment of membership fees. In the event of any such member not being able to complete the season he will receive a rebate of his fee for the months in which he is unable to play.

Although it is hardly possible the Club will be able to increase its membership under present conditions, increased interest and activity in tennis can be expected in Te Awamutu this season in view of the fact that the town is now the centre of the Northeim King Country Sub-Associa-tion, the formation of which has met with solid support from interested clubs. W;ord has not yet been received from Cambridge as to its intention of affiliating with the new Association, but the indications are that a favourable decision will be received within a few days. With the inclusion of Cambridge Te Awamutu will definitely be in a much more favourable position for the promotion of general club activities and games than it has been in the past when it was under the handicap of being at the far end of its territory.
