ENTERTAINMENTS

AT THE REGENT. COMMENCING TO-NIGHT. “THE ROAD TO RENO." Sparkling with gay comedy situations, and filled with melody furs nished by the golden-voiced Hope Hampton, Universal’s latest prodution, “The Road to Reno,” comes to the Regent Theatre to-night. Set against a majestic background ol towering mountains and replete with intimate pictures of the topsy-turvy life found only in Reno, “the city of broken hearts,” the film runs the gamut from sophisticated comedy to flashes of heart-tugging drama. Costarring Randolph Scott and Hope Hampton, and featuring Glenda Farrell, Helen Broderick, Alan Marshall, and David Oliver, the production is swiftly paced from start to finish. It tells the story of Linda HalHday (Hope Hampton), lovely but temperamental opera star, who has decided to divorce her husband, Steve Fortescue (Randolph Scott) because he insists that she shall give up her career and live on his ranch near Reno. AT THE EMPIRE. COMMENCING TO-NIGHT. “SECRETS OF A NURSE.” A dramatic film version of the mag- ( azine story by Quentin Reynolds, Universal’s “Secrets of a Nurse,” with Edmund Lowe, Helen Mack, and Dick Foran, will open to-night at the Empire Theatre. The topical story rests upon the fine distinction between ethical or non-ethical revelations a professional trained nurse may or may not divulge. Lowe is cast as a rich

criminal attorney who sacrifices romance and his reputation as an invincible courtroom strategist when he defends his young rival on an open-and-shut murder charge. Foran and Miss Mack complete an unusual love triangle as a young prize-fighter and a beautiful nurse who, because of her profession, sees much, hears much, but fears to speak. Action begins when Foran, doped and badly battered in a bout, is miraculously brought through a fight for his life by the nurse. Later the stage is set for a court drama when Foran is framed on a murder charge and the lawyer is induced by the girl to defend the boxer in the face of conclusive circumstantial. evidence.”
